What's in it

The five questions, with good answers and red flags.

They're all here. The guide adds three more things to do before you sign.

Who owns the website and the domain if we part ways?

Good answer: You do. The domain is registered in your name and you get the files or keep the site. Red flag: "We host it on our platform." That can mean you leave with nothing.

Question 1

Whose name are the ad accounts in?

Good answer: Yours. They're added as a helper, and your card pays the platform directly. Red flag: They run your ads inside their own account and send you a summary.

Question 2

What do you report on?

Good answer: Leads by source, and which ones turned into signed jobs. Red flag: Impressions, clicks, and reach, with nothing about jobs.

Question 3

Do you work with my competitors in my area?

Good answer: A straight yes or no, and how they handle it. Red flag: They dodge the question, or say it doesn't matter.

Question 4

What happens if it doesn't work, and how do I cancel?

Good answer: A clear answer in writing: the notice period and what you keep. Red flag: A long contract with no way out, or "that won't happen."

What should I ask a marketing agency before hiring them?

Who owns the website and domain, whose name the ad accounts are in, what they report on, whether they work with your competitors, and what happens if it doesn't work.

Is a guaranteed first page ranking a red flag?

Yes. Nobody controls Google's results. Walk away from anyone who guarantees a ranking.

Should I get the logins to my own website and ad accounts?

Yes, on day one, even if you never use them. Without them you can't check the work or leave cleanly.
