Free checklist for contractors
Twelve checks before you spend a dollar on ads.
Fix the free stuff, own your accounts, know what you'll measure, and set a budget you can hold. So the money has somewhere to land.
- 12 checks
- 1 page
- Free, no sales call
Fix the free stuff first
Profile, reviews, phone, and form.
Own the accounts
Your name, your card, your logins.
Know what you'll measure
Signed jobs by channel, not clicks.
Set a budget you can hold
Steady for 30 days, judged by the week.
What's in it
What to check before you run Google or Facebook ads.
All twelve are below. The guide puts them on one page you can print and tick off.
Fix the free stuff first
Your Google Business Profile is claimed and filled in: category, service area, hours, photos. Reviews are coming in steadily, and the newest one is recent. Your phone gets answered, or the voicemail says when you'll call back. Your website form reaches your phone within minutes.
Own the accounts
The ad account is in your name and you're the owner. Any helper is added as a user. Your card pays Google or Facebook directly, so you see every dollar spent. You have the logins for your website, your domain, and your Google profile.
Know what you'll measure
Every caller gets asked: How'd you hear about us? And somebody writes it down. Ads go to one page that asks for the job, not your home page. You know your one number: spend on a channel divided by jobs signed from it.
Set a budget you can hold
Pick a daily amount you can keep steady for 30 days. Judge it by the week, not the day. Don't touch it for the first full week.
Who this is from
I build this for contractors. Here's one of them.
I'm Sam Harrington. Tin Roof Digital is a small shop, and you'd be dealing with me. These guides are the same basics I set up for the trades I work with. Use them whether you ever talk to me or not.
“Fast response and answers every question! Once we started with Tin Roof Digital we started getting more reliable leads. Would definitely recommend their services!”
Should a contractor run Google ads or Facebook ads first?
It depends on your trade and your area, and this checklist doesn't pick one for you. It makes sure that whichever you choose, the calls and forms it produces reach you, and you can tell whether it paid off.
How much should a contractor spend on ads?
There's no single right number. Pick a daily amount you can hold steady for 30 days, and judge it by the week, not the day.
Who should own the ad account?
You. The account should be in your name with your card on it. Anyone helping you gets added as a user.
Free, and it opens right away
